This Geissele reaction rod works by pre-loading the barrel nut extension to the lugs of the Super Reaction Rod, eliminating any movement before torque gets applied to the barrel nut, while simultaneously fixing the upper receiver in place. Having the barrel nut extension mated to the rod's lugs and the upper locked down before torquing removes any potential stress that would otherwise transfer to the index pin. That's what lets an armorer apply tremendous torque to a stuck barrel nut without risking the small, easily distorted pin that standard vise blocks tend to stress.

The pre-loading system can also be removed entirely, letting this AR reaction rod function just like a standard reaction rod — full 360-degree movement, both vertically and horizontally, for regular upper receiver work that doesn't involve a seized nut.
