The Uberti Bird's Head Stallion Old West Defense .38 Spl 3.5" Bbl Full Matte Finish Steel B/S & TG 6rd Revolver is a compact and classic-style revolver manufactured by Uberti. This Uberti 349891 revolver is chambered in .38 Special and features a 3.5-inch barrel. It comes with a full matte finish, providing a subdued and durable appearance. The revolver is constructed with steel backstrap (B/S) and trigger guard (TG) for added strength and durability. It has a 6-round capacity, making it suitable for personal defense or as a historical and aesthetic firearm choice reminiscent of the Old West era.
In July of 1873, the U.S. Army made a pivotal decision by adopting the Colt Single Action Army to replace its aging Model 1860 percussion-cap revolvers. The introduction of the Single Action Army marked a significant turning point in firearms history. Soldiers quickly embraced this new weapon, appreciating its formidable stopping power, impressive accuracy, and straightforward maintenance. Its reputation as a reliable and powerful sidearm spread like wildfire.
The appeal of the Single Action Army extended beyond the military, finding favor with civilians, law enforcement officers, and even outlaws. Its superior design and performance made it a sought-after firearm during a time when the Wild West was still a rugged frontier. Notable figures like Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders carried these revolvers during their charge up San Juan Hill. General George S. Patton also favored the Single Action Army, even during the Second World War, despite the increasing popularity of semi-automatic handguns.
Today, Uberti upholds the legacy of the Colt Single Action Army with their line of Model Uberti 1873 Single Action Army Revolvers. These meticulously crafted handguns pay homage to the originals, capturing their authentic appearance down to the finest detail. However, there is one crucial modification—a retractable firing pin. Unlike the original Single Action Army revolvers, where the firing pin rests on a cartridge's primer when fully loaded, the Uberti versions are designed with safety in mind. They allow all six rounds to be safely carried by ensuring the firing pin rests on an empty chamber when the hammer is un-cocked, eliminating the need for potentially hazardous practices.
With the firing pin remaining unlocked while the hammer is down, the risk of accidental discharge is reduced.
