They are endowed with the same Black-T treatment as the Springfield Armory 1911 handguns which are designated for Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)'s Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) and Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) teams.

The 1911-A1 Range Officer Elite includes custom thin-line G10 grips that is particularly designed for this lineup and significant for lending a new feel for high precision 1911s. It also comes with improved sight choices like fully adjustable rear target/ fiber optic front or tactical ledge or rack/ white-dot front rear, depending on the variant. Other features consist of crisp, newly-designed Gen 2 triggers, and ambidextrous thumb safeties.

This Springfield Armory series is divided into 1911 Range Officer Elite Compact, 1911 Range Officer Elite Champion, 1911 Range Officer Elite Operator and 1911 Range Officer Elite Target Pistols, and available in 9MM or .45ACP pistol calibers.
