TL:DR - Great Binocular, Great Scopelist Service, Swarovski service, not so much

It is probably way too early to review the product, but I tried the top offering of the big 3 Euro manufacturers. All 3 offer excellent optics, with the differences probably too subtle for my eyes. I chose the NLs because of the way they felt in my hands.

The product arrived on Monday, I immediately attached the strap with great difficulty. I spent five minutes looking through them and put them into their strange carry case and put them in the car for my Wednesday birding outing. On Wednesday after a couple hours of enjoyable use, I encountered an Ovenbird very nearby, maybe 12 feet away. As I turned the focus wheel, I hit a wall at about 15 feet, at which time I felt like I had to force the wheel, then it felt grindy then was smooth again.

The next morning I called Swarovski. The rep suggested my BRAND NEW $3k binoculars would enjoy an 8-10 week vacation. I escalated and was told I would get a call back shortly. After not hearing back, nearly 24 hours later, I called again and got a different rep who told me to contact my vendor (Scopelist) and I could probably return (despite the fact that when you open the box there is a big red card saying do not return to vendor, call Swarovski).

I called Scopelist and spoke to a rep we will call Tyler P. He apologized and immediately issued an RA and a replacement order. Easy Peasy. 5 minutes and done. I received the replacements today and could not be happier.

After I spoke to Tyler, I received a call from an Assistant Repair Manager, lets call him Del, from Swarovski who explained to me that the reason the focus mechanism was garbage was because I had not properly performed the diopter adjustment. His logic and arrogance amazed me, but after we got off the phone, I performed the diopter adjustment again. Again I had about a 1/10 adjustment and, amazingly enough, the focus wheel still had to be forced below 15 feet.

Anyway, I’ll update the review after a few outings. This is a great product sold by a great vendor. Avoid Swarovski service department if at all possible. No manufacturer is perfect and defective products occasionally escape into the wild. I get that. But please don’t treat me like an idiot if I report one to you. Swarovski did, Scopelist didn’t.

One star off for bad Swarovski service.

Outstanding optics at a great price. Sales TAX PAID, WOE, and free shipping. Its a trifecta !! No more need be said.
